At its plant of oligomers and glycols, Nizhnekamskneftekhim started production of solid polyethylene glycol (SPEG).

Today, these products are used in many industries and are increasingly incorporated into daily life of every Russian family. SPEG is applied as a viscosity regulator, antistatic agent, softener, gelatinising, granulating, and tabletting auxiliary substances in the ceramic and rubber industry.

Solid polyethylene glycol also enjoys application in the pharmaceutical industry for the dissolution of liquid drugs, production of suppositories, ointments and tablets.

In addition, SPEG serves as the basis for cosmetics, in particular creams for skin care, in the production of detergents. SPEG consumers are Russian and foreign companies.

To receive SPEG, Nizhnekamskneftekhim commissioned a unique new equipment – a crystallisation unit, as well as a robotic product packaging line.

The finished SPEG product is packed into dense three-layer 25-kg paper bags. To pack solid polyethylene glycol in the future, the plant expects to apply polypropylene containers up to 1000 kg (big bags).

Nizhnekamskneftekhim took part in the 3rd Forum of the Union of Plastics Processers, which was held in Moscow with the support from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and the Russian Union of Chemists. More than a dozen of major plastics manufacturers from all over the country was brought together to discuss the progress and problems in the industry, as well as ways to tackle them.

According to the participants of the Forum, one of the main problems in the industry is the low marginality of the plastics production. Among the reasons is that the sector is developing at a faster pace that the Russia’s economy in general. The solution to this problem could be the reorientation of finished products for exports.

In the next six years, measures of state support for the chemical industry are expected to be largely aimed at increasing the exports potential. Support measures should also be more active in ensuring the relevance of the country’s customs and tariff policies by reducing import duties on goods that are not produced in Russia, and in increasing duties on goods whose production is excessive. In addition, the rates of import duties on polymer products should not be lower than the rates on the polymers themselves.
