Development of partnership relations between China and Tatarstan

Today, a delegation of the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province (PRC) headed by Vice-Governor Mao Weiming arrived at the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan. This is the first visit that takes place within the framework of the meeting of the Council for Cooperation between the Regions of the Volga Federal District and the Provinces in the Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River held on May 23-24, 2019 in the city of Cheboksary (Chuvashia).

At the meeting, representatives of China and Tatarstan discussed the possible signing of a cooperation agreement between Tatarstan and Jiangxi Province in trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian, and tourist fields.

The People's Republic of China is considered one of the key foreign trade partners of Tatarstan. The trade turnover between China and Tatarstan is increasing from year to year. Since 2017, this figure grew by 10% reaching $628.7 million in 2018. The promising cooperation areas include mechanical engineering, automotive sector and petrochemicals, energy, biomedicine, robotics, agriculture, as well as investment and innovative production spheres.

In Tatarstan, major economic projects are being implemented with China-based Haier, Weichai, Huawei, and others. In addition, partner relations are also developing in the field of education. Within the framework of the Tatarstan-Chinese cooperation, 7 agreements have been signed with a number of provinces in China.
