KAMAZ Forging Plant mastered crankshafts for YaMZ

27 July 2017, Thursday

The KAMAZ Forging Plant have completed a multi-stage project, which started more than a year ago as part of the diversification programme. Since March, the plant has been carrying out regular deliveries of two kinds of forged crankshafts to the Yaroslavl Motor Plant.

The initiative to produce crankshafts at the production facilities of KAMAZ was made by the Yaroslavl engine builders, with the reason being their own import substitution programme. Having reached an agreement with partners, forging plant experts proceeded to designing new products, creating design documentation, and starting preproduction engineering. A final stage of the work included the creation of a special section for machining crankshafts; now the forging plant has a full cycle of product development, including high-quality machining.

It is noteworthy that this large-scale project has been implemented without purchasing any additional equipment: they managed to unleash the potential of the machine tools already available at the plant. In addition, an ideal crankshaft balancing was achieved. Specifically for correcting imbalance in forgings, a computer programme has been developed at the plant. The discrepancy between the weight characteristics of the counterbalances is entered into it, computed, and the resulting information goes to a milling machine operator who completes the product.
