Ford Sollers has launched a pilot project to equip its Russian employees with 3D Augmented Reality glasses for optimising processes of supplying parts to the assembly line of the Naberezhnye Chelny plant. The most advanced digital picking technology, Pick by Vision, would increase the efficiency of logistics processes and quickly adapt the warehouse to new tasks, such as launching new Ford models.
The system was developed by ID-Russia and the IT department of Ford Sollers. At the initial stage, the new technology will be introduced at the plant in Naberezhnye Chelny for the local manufacture of Ford EcoSport crossovers, as well as Ford Fiesta hatchbacks and sedans.
The Augmented Reality technology is integrated with the warehouse management system. The order for picking parts for a particular vehicle is formed by the WMS system, and then transmitted via Wi-Fi to the visual interface of the glasses. As a client device in the Pick by Vision system, the today’s most perfect AR solution is chosen, the Microsoft HoloLens mixed reality smart glasses.
The pilot project for implementing the Pick by Vision system has started at the Naberezhnye Chelny plant, the system testing process will be completed by the end of 2017. After the successful completion of the pilot project, 3D glasses can further be received by employees of other Ford Sollers enterprises.
