On 19 September 2016, Korston Hotel & Mall in Kazan hosted the 6th session of the Russia-Japan Advisory Council on Modernisation of the Russian Economy. The event was attended by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Russia Toyohisa Kozuki, Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov, Russian Deputy Minister of Economic Development Stanislav Voskresensky, Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Albert Karimov, Chairman of Transport Section of Japan-Russia Economic Committee of Japan Business Federation Takeshi Hashimoto, President of All-Russia Public Organisation Business Russia, Chairman of Russian-Japanese Business Council Aleksey Repik, and top officials from ministries and agencies of Russia and Tatarstan.

Participants of the meeting discussed a number of promising projects in implementing advanced technologies, establishing export base to markets of Asia-Pacific Region including industrial development at the Far East, diversifying Russia’s industrial structure and improving its efficiency, developing relations in energy production and increasing the production capacity in medical sphere and health care, and developing urban environment.

On 19 September 2016, Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Albert Karimov participated in the meeting between Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Japanese delegation headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Russia Toyohisa Kozuki.

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that a visit of Tatarstan delegation to Japan is scheduled in the nearest future; in October 2016, Kyoto will host the International Science and Technology in Society Forum.

“We are willing to expand our relations with Japanese entrepreneurs. Technologies and funds of many Japan-based companies are used in our republic: in construction of petrochemical facilities, health care, agriculture, and IT sphere. It is important for us to further employ the existing economic potential for expanding bilateral cooperation”, said Tatarstan President during his meeting with Ambassador Toyohisa Kozuki.

According to Rustam Minnikhanov, activities to attract Japan-based SMEs are not arranged very well yet and it is essential to improve this situation in order to yield good results.
